Treatment Programs

Medical Detox

Medical detox

Our medically supervised detoxification program provides 24/7 physician-led monitoring throughout the 3-to-7-day stabilization period. Board-certified addiction medicine specialists administer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) protocols tailored to each substance class, managing acute withdrawal symptoms while continuously assessing vital signs, neurological status, and psychological stability. San Diego patients benefit from immediate clinical intervention backed by 18 years of institutional expertise and a staff-to-patient ratio that ensures individualized medical attention around the clock.

MDVT Rehab employs pharmacological interventions including buprenorphine, naltrexone, and benzodiazepine taper schedules calibrated to withdrawal severity scoring (CIWA/COWS). Our 52-bed facility integrates real-time telemetry monitoring with nursing assessments every two hours, ensuring physiological safety during the most acute detoxification phase. Once medically cleared, patients transition directly into our residential or outpatient continuum with a comprehensive treatment plan already in progress.

Residential Treatment

Residential

Our 30-to-90-day residential program applies a neuroscience-informed treatment framework within a structured therapeutic environment. Residents participate in daily clinical programming that targets the neurobiological mechanisms of addiction, including dopaminergic pathway regulation, stress-response conditioning, and prefrontal cortex executive function restoration. With 110 staff members supporting 52 beds, each patient receives an individualized treatment protocol developed by a multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, licensed therapists, and certified addiction counselors.

The residential milieu at MDVT Rehab integrates evidence-based modalities with a mindfulness-centered daily structure designed to recalibrate the autonomic nervous system. Morning meditation and breathwork sessions activate parasympathetic regulation, while structured therapeutic blocks address cognitive distortions through CBT, emotional dysregulation through DBT, and trauma processing through EMDR. Over 11,200 patients have completed residential care at our San Diego facility, and ongoing outcome tracking demonstrates sustained neuroplastic gains at 6- and 12-month follow-up intervals.

Outpatient Program

Outpatient

Our 8-to-12-week outpatient program (PHP and IOP tracks) delivers structured clinical programming while patients maintain occupational and family responsibilities. The Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) provides 2 to 4 weeks of intensive daytime treatment, meeting five days per week for six hours daily. The Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) extends across 8 to 12 weeks with three sessions per week, enabling graduated autonomy as coping mechanisms consolidate and relapse prevention skills become internalized.

Treatment protocols integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to restructure maladaptive thought patterns, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) for distress tolerance and emotional regulation, and Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention (MBRP) to enhance interoceptive awareness of craving states. San Diego-area patients benefit from local peer support integration and community resource coordination managed by our dedicated case management team. Pharmacotherapy consultations continue throughout the outpatient phase to optimize medication-assisted treatment regimens.

Dual Diagnosis

Dual diagnosis

MDVT Rehab provides fully integrated dual diagnosis treatment for patients presenting with co-occurring substance use disorders and psychiatric conditions, including major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, PTSD, bipolar spectrum disorders, and personality disorders. Our psychiatric team conducts comprehensive diagnostic evaluations using standardized instruments (PHQ-9, GAD-7, PCL-5) to establish accurate differential diagnoses before developing unified treatment plans that address both conditions simultaneously rather than sequentially.

The clinical rationale for integrated care is well-established in the literature: treating addiction without addressing underlying psychiatric pathology produces significantly higher relapse rates. Our dual diagnosis track combines psychopharmacological management with trauma-informed psychotherapy, ensuring that neurochemical imbalances receive targeted pharmacological intervention while therapeutic modalities address the behavioral and cognitive dimensions of both conditions. Patients in the dual diagnosis program access the same mindfulness-centered daily structure with additional psychiatric consultation hours and specialized group sessions focused on co-occurring disorder management.
